- <p class="bodycontent-text-FS_1">这是发表时间最早的一部以歇洛克·福尔摩斯为主人公的小说，首次发表于英国的《比顿圣诞年刊》（Beeton's Christmas Annual）1887年刊；英文篇名为“A Study in Scarlet”，由故事中叙述可知此篇名为借用艺术术语。在艺术术语当中，“study”是“习作”的意思，故此译为“暗红习作”。类似例子如同时期美国著名画家惠斯勒（<i class="calibre7">James McNeill Whistler，1834—1903</i>）的《玫瑰色及褐色习作》（A Study in Rose and Brown）以及法国著名画家夏加尔（<i class="calibre7">Marc Chagall，1887—1985</i>）的早年作品《绿色背景之粉色习作》（A Study in Pink on Green Background）。除此之外，这是柯南·道尔创作的第一篇福尔摩斯故事，亦暗合“习作”之意。</p>
